The world-wide MIM-market has grown considerably over the last years, the consumption of feed-stock has been doubled from 2003 to almost 6.000 tons in 2007.
Especially the acceptance of the MIM technology in the automotive industry had a positive influence on the growth in Europe. Improved injection moulding machines and furnaces which allow tighter tolerances opened access to the automotive market and contributed to the growth. At present there are 40-50 MIM parts makers across Europe. The supply chain is dominated by few suppliers for powder, feedstock and presses. European parts makers are less prone to develop their own feedstock and de-binding processes than in the USA. The figures shown in the graphic represent an estimate based on the experience of the members of the MIM expert group.
